Mobile MMORPG MU Origin Will Discontinue Service In The Netherlands Over Lootboxes
Developer and publisher Webzen has announced that MU Origin, the open-world mobile MMORPG set in the same universe as MU Legend will no longer be available on Netherlands’ Google Play Store and Apple App Store due to new laws regarding in-game loot boxes. The recent judgement passed by The Netherlands Gaming Authority will be imposed on June 20th, 2018.
Webzen assures that this will not have effects on the service of MU Origin in other regions. There is no mention of any compensation in the announcement.
This is not the first time the MMORPG genre has taken a hit due to legislation in the past few months with WarpPortal closing down all of their game services including over half a dozen MMORPGs for the European regions. Which MMOs are next?
