World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is an MMORPG or ‘massively multiplayer online role-playing game’ set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, four years after the events of its predecessor Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Players traverse through the world forming companionship with guilds and parties, and meeting enemies from opposing factions and dungeons of old. Gameplay has evolved tremendously since its initial launch with the introduction of seven expansions.

World of Warcraft is a juggernaut when it comes to popularity, consistency and playtime longevity. The game remains as one of the highest regarded MMORPGs of all time and is holding its title of the most subscribed MMORPG in the world with report of 5.5 million subscriptions in October 2015.

Races

World of Warcraft Races

Alliance
Human

Though humans are among the younger races on Azeroth, they have faced many challenges with fortitude and resilience.

Dwarf

The bold and courageous dwarves are an ancient race descended from the earthen-beings of living stone created by the titans when the world was young.

Night Elf

The ancient and reclusive night elves have played a pivotal role in shaping Azeroth’s fate throughout its history.

Gnome

The clever, spunky, and oftentimes eccentric gnomes present a unique paradox among the civilized races of Azeroth.

Draenei

Armed with their unshakable faith in the Light, the draenei ventured to their embattled former home as steadfast members of the Alliance and defeated their ancient demonic rivals.

Worgen

Behind the formidable Greymane Wall, a terrible curse transformed some of the stalwart citizens of the isolated kingdom of Gilneas into nightmarish lupine beasts known as worgen.

Pandaren

The wise pandaren embrace harmony, and lead full lives of food, family and fights on Pandaria. A few leave their home to join the Alliance, where they embody righteousness and honor.

Horde
Orc

Unlike the other races of the Horde, orcs are not native to Azeroth. Initially, they lived as shamanic clans on the lush world of Draenor.

Undead

When the Lich King’s grasp on his vast armies faltered after the Third War, a contingent of undead broke free of their master’s iron will.

Tauren

The peaceful tauren—known in their own tongue as the shu’halo—have long dwelled in Kalimdor, striving to preserve the balance of nature at the behest of their goddess, the Earth Mother.

Troll

The savage trolls of Azeroth are infamous for their cruelty, dark mysticism, and seething hatred for all other races.

Blood Elf

During the Third War, the glorious high elves of Quel’Thalas were nearly scoured from Azeroth. Now, they struggle to rebuild their once-great society and overcome their dependence on arcane magic.

Goblin

Reforging old pacts with their collegues’ one-time allies, the goblins of the Bilgewater Cartel have been welcomed into the Horde with open arms.

Pandaren

The wise pandaren embrace harmony, and lead full lives of food, family and fights on Pandaria. A few leave their home to side with the Horde and act decisively to protect themselves and others.

Classes

World of Warcraft Classes

Warrior
Tank, Damage

For as long as war has raged, heroes from every race have aimed to master the art of battle. Warriors combine strength, leadership, and a vast knowledge of arms and armor to wreak havoc in glorious combat.

Hunter
Damage

From an early age, the call of the wild draws some adventurers from the comfort of their homes into the unforgiving primal world outside. Those who endure become hunters.

Priest
Healer, Damage

Priests are devoted to the spiritual, and express their unwavering faith by serving the people. For millennia they have left behind the confines of their temples and the comfort of their shrines so they can support their allies in war-torn lands.

Shaman
Healer, Damage

Shaman are the spiritual leaders of their tribes and clans. They are masters of the elements, using spells and totems that heal or enhance their allies in battle while unleashing the fury of the elements upon their foes.

Warlock
Damage

In the face of demonic power, most heroes see death. Warlocks see only opportunity. Dominance is their aim, and they have found a path to it in the dark arts. These voracious spellcasters summon demonic minions to fight beside them.

Druid
Tank, Healer, Damage

Druids harness the vast powers of nature to preserve balance and protect life. As master shapeshifters, druids can take on the forms of a variety of beasts, each focused on a specific combat role.

Paladin
Tank, Healer, Damage

This is the call of the paladin: to protect the weak, to bring justice to the unjust, and to vanquish evil from the darkest corners of the world.

Rogue
Damage

For rogues, the only code is the contract, and their honor is purchased in gold. Free from the constraints of a conscience, these mercenaries rely on brutal and efficient tactics.

Death Knight
Tank, Damage

When the Lich King’s control of his death knights was broken, his former champions sought revenge for the horrors committed under his command.

Mage
Damage

Students gifted with a keen intellect and unwavering discipline may walk the path of the mage. The arcane magic available to magi is both great and dangerous, and thus is revealed only to the most devoted practitioners.

Monk
Tank, Healer, Damage

Bare-knuckle brawlers whose no-weapon styles were born in ancient Pandaria, monks are as diverse as the energy that surrounds them. They can shoulder deadly attacks through the haze of their brews, heal broken chi flows, and beat their enemies with wind-quick fists and feet.

Demon Hunter
Tank, Damage

Demon hunters embrace the forbidden powers of the Legion. They make use of fel and chaotic magics, metamorphosis abilities, spectral sight, and hellish agility to hunt down and defeat even the most dangerous adversaries.

A review… you want a review for WoW? Really? You know what it is…. ok fine. The last expansion this reviewer played was Legion (current as of 4/18/18). It still feels smooth. It still looks current, due to its stylized graphics. It still sounds great with iconic music and impactful sound effects. However, with all of the expansion in WoW’s history, the leveling process in a mess. Players advance through zones in a blur of level up sounds and flashing lights, skipping over so much of what made this game great. It still is great, but something has been lost in the speed leveling and overpowered feel of early game play. The classic turn of phrase, “The game really starts at max level” has never been truer for this title. My advice is to take it slow and don’t min-max-super-rocket-redbull-boost… Read more »
