ExitLag Ping Booster VPN Review For MMORPGs – Get Around IP Blocks In Minutes

ExitLag-Review-With-MMORPGs-By-MMOPulse

More than half of all MMORPGs make their debuts in countries somewhere in Asia. Connecting to these games from the Western hemisphere can be quite a hassle due to the sheer distance and often times due to region-based IP blocks. In the past decade, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) have become such a wide-spread tool, especially to MMO gamers. Through them, it’s possible for anyone to play games from anywhere in the world.  ExitLag is one of a handful of game VPNs that I use to access and play dozens of MMOs coming out in South Korea. For a few bucks, this software has fast connections specifically for MMOs from all over the world.

What’s the use of a VPN to MMO gamers?

A VPN creates a connection between your computer and a server located elsewhere. This allows you to have a secure and private connection to anywhere in the world while browsing the web or gaming. For gamers in particular, VPNs are mainly used for two reasons; to have lower ping (faster connection) and to access games with IP blocks or other regional restrictions.

More and more MMO beta testings such as Smilegate’s Lost Ark are being barbed with region-based IP blocks lately. Nexon is also set to launch a beta for Peria Chronicles very soon and that too will most likely have IP blocks. A hindrance that determined MMO fans will surely get around.

What can ExitLag do?

ExitLag is a game-based VPN software designed to optimize your connection to the servers of your games. The software creates multiple connections for the user and chooses the route with the lowest ping and fastest connection. If a route goes down, the next fastest automatically substitutes so that your connection remains as fast as ExitLag can provide.

Performance: (9.0/10)

As a hardcore MMO gamer currently residing in Australia, I have to say that the most crucial part of a VPN is its performance. Connecting from nearly the farthest livable place from North American servers means a consistent 200-500 ping. With ExitLag, that number is drastically decreased.

I tested ExitLag with two MMOs, MapleStory 2 and Guild Wars 2. In both games, I was able to drop my ping by at least 200 with ExitLag’s best analyzed route connections. In MapleStory 2, my ping went from an average of 400 to an average of 160. I was able to play and level up a new character for five hours with a consistent 160-200 ping without any disconnections. That’s very good!

ExitLag gives a decent and consistent boost. However, I have to say that I’ve managed to get faster speeds in the same games through different VPN services, but the improvements that ExitLag provided were certainly on the better end of the spectrum.

Ease of Use: (9.3/10)

When it comes to VPNs, the ease of use of the software is nearly as crucial as its performance. No one wants to spend 45 minutes troubleshooting before playing a game. ExitLag offers a very easy setup. After the installation, you are met with a user interface that is simple and easy to navigate.

  1. Scroll through the left sidebar to find the game you wish to play.
  2. Choose the region you wish to connect to and hit apply routes.
  3. Start up your game!

Those three steps are all that you need to do to play with a completely new connection. Connecting is instant and switching between regions is not a hassle. You can also see the live latency for each region. The fact that I can simply scroll to find most of the new MMOs that commonly require VPNs is a big plus.

Supported MMOs: (9.2/10)

The majority of the supported games on ExitLag are actually MMOs! The software gives you fast connection with games from as old as Ragnarok Online 1 to as new as KurtzPel: Bringer of Chaos, Lost Ark and Ascent: Infinite Realm.

It seems that almost all of the popular MMOs such as ArcheAge, World of Warcraft, Albion Online, Cabal, Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy XIV, The Elder Scrolls Online, and more are connectable through ExitLag. The software even offers connections to private servers of classic MMOs like Mazey FlyFF and Freestyle GunZ.

ExitLag also supports browsers like Google Chrome and voice-over-ip programs like TeamSpeak 3. However, I found that my connections with their browsers’ routes did not perform as well as the connections for games.

Pricing: (8.5/10)

ExitLag offers three plans as listed below. I would say that they are around the average cost of reliable video game VPNs. You can also try the software for free for 3 days.

  • $6.50/Monthly for 30 days
  • $18.50/Quarterly for 90 days
  • $35.00/Semi-annually for 180 day

Is it safe to use?

Third-party software can sometimes cause issues with video game security programs. Thankfully, ExitLag is viewed by many programs like XIGNCODE3, BattleEye and Valve Security as a safe program.

Do you recommend it?

I would recommend ExitLag to MMO players as a good starter VPN for a fair price. The software offers many routing options for many different MMOs including newly released titles like Lost Ark, Ascent: Infinite Realm and Astellia Online. It’s definitely worth checking out especially since it is free to test for three days.
